Leinster Finals

En route to Galway, we took a detour and stopped in Dublin for a few hours, as we were able to get tickets to the Leinster Finals for Gaelic football at Croke Park. A very special experience, as it would be comparable to the Super Bowl in the US and tickets are extremely difficult to get. Croke Park is the largest sports stadium in Ireland and is the headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association. It has a capacity of 82,300-which made for an incredible atmosphere on Sunday with Dublin vs. Kildare. Since Teacher Dan is from Dublin, he convinced all of the students they must cheer for his team. Many students wore blue clothes and painted their faces before the game to show their support for Dublin. Our seats couldn't have been any better, as we were directly behind the goal posts looking at Hill 16. The students were able to see every play on the field. We were very lucky! It was a very close game and Kildare almost pulled off the upset, however, Dublin came back to win it. 2-15 to 0-18. UP DUBLIN!!! On our way to Galway, we stopped at a local shopping center and were able to get a bite to eat at the Food Court. Many of us forgot that our faces were painted, so I'm sure we must have been an odd site to see wandering around the Mall. Ha! What a blast we had!!!
