Catching Up!

I'm so sorry these posts are delayed, but we were having trouble with the internet at King's Hospital. My apologies. Better late than never though:). Enjoy! On Tuesday, Teacher Angie read a Frank O'Connor story to the students and taught them about Seamus Heaney. Teacher Dan, taught the students about more of the 1916 Rebellion-which tied in perfectly with their tour of Kilmainham Gaol the day before. He also had the students present to the class an Irish American they knew from home. He was very impressed, especially by Caroline's. Caroline spoke about her grandfather and how he was a doctor for Kennedy. Dan also taught body parts in Gaelic and prepared the students for Twister in Gaelic on Friday. Taryn gave out a quiz in her class and the students had to write down all of the counties in Ireland on a blank map. Only four students received perfect scores-Catherine, Grace, Kelsey, and River. Way to go girls! They received very trendy Guinness pint glasses as souvenirs for a job well done! The rest of the day was filled with a few workshops. Angie held her famous Northern Ireland Workshop and talked about growing up in Belfast during the height of the Troubles. She gave information to the students about both sides and shared her experiences. It was very powerful and made the students feel very lucky that they would be able to go up North in a few days, because ten years ago, it wouldn't have been possible! A few students also took Taryn's Celtic Frame Workshop and painted some beautiful masterpieces. The students are so talented! Many of the other students had free time and during the evening we played a few games. Scrabble has become a popular game with the students and the Staff. Teacher Dan has become obsessed with Scrabble and will often challenge the students to a game or two. Cailin has come pretty close to beating him, but he still holds the record for the most wins. Laundry will be done tonight and tomorrow we have an exciting fun-filled day in Dublin! Wahoo!
