A Bunch of Blarney

Hello ILE Families and Friends! On Saturday, our very own Brian Farrell, from Burren Coaches, picked us up around 10:00 AM. It was goodbye Dublin-hello Killarney. En route, students were treated to music from their very own playlist. Each student added one song, to make a spectacular 2012 ILE Playlist. Casey made sure she added a few from One Direction-her favorite band. Our first stop was Blarney Castle, where students were able to eat lunch and climb the narrow castle steps to kiss the Blarney Stone. A few of the ILE Staff agreed that not everyone needed the Gift of the Gab, as many of our students already could talk their way out of any situation. Ha! There were some students that decided not to kiss the Blarney Stone, as they had hear rumors about what locals do to the stone at night. Mums the word. Ann said it was an experience, but she was a little nervous of the height. When many of the students had finished the adventure, they returned to the great Blarney Woolen Mills and purchased a few souvenirs-not to mention 99's for the road. Scones had coffee with Mr. and Mrs. Scones, so a lot of the students were excited to meet Scones' parents. They are great and maybe next year they will be able to come on tour with us. Ha! Then it was time to get on the road again for another hour and a half-before Killarney. An intense game of Dog/Tractor occurred, where Tyler got pretty competitive with Dan. After a long day of traveling, we eventually made it to the Killarney Court with Carrantoohill as the backdrop. Students were given a stipend for dinner and had a chance to wander around the delightful picturesque town. Around 9:00 PM, the Michael Collins group of Kelly, James, Mariah, Rachel, Zach-with additions of Anica and Luis-were treated to the Killarney Ghost Tour. For about two hours, students were told scary stories and shown places around Killarney that made the hair on your backs stand straight up. Angie and Taryn had a few frights and let out some screams, as there were crazy things that kept touching their feet on the bus. Ghosts, maybe. A few of the students also took pictures in a local abbey and captured orbs. Spooky! What a laugh we had-great craic. Luis said he had a blast and wanted to do it all over again. The night ended and all of the students were tucked away in their comfortable rooms at the hotel-excited for a fry the next morning. Angie said that Taryn had some nightmares though-maybe do to all of the haunting escapades on the Ghost Tour. Who knows.
