Call Me Maybe

Hello ILE Families and Friends! After an incredible day yesterday, Wednesday was a little slower and calmer class day. Students were up around 8:30 AM for breakfast followed by class at 9:00 AM. Today students learned about more James Joyce and Seamus Heaney in Angie's Irish literature class. While Dan taught the students about Daniel O'Connell and Charles Stewart Parnell in Irish history and about the Famine in Irish American history. Taryn than finished up her slang class, which led into genealogy. Zach enjoyed seeing his family crest and found it worthwhile learning about how to research his roots in Ireland. The last class of the day was Dan's Gaelic, which students played Bingo-from all of the numbers they had learned the day before. It took a while for a winner, but Ann was successful. She had to read her Bingo numbers back to Dan, so she is now a professional counting in Irish. She won the book-PS I Love You and a Cork flag for her hard earned efforts. Happy Days. The afternoon was jam packed full of workshops. Amy did her two superb workshops, where students made Celtic designs on T-Shirts and made friendship bracelets in the colors of the Irish flag/Tri-Color. Green representing the Catholics, Orange representing the Protestants, and white representing the peace between the two. We were also fortunate enough to have our dear ILE friend, Corinna O'Donoghue visit us for the afternoon. Corinna worked with the program as a teacher for four years-teaching Gaelic, Irish dance, and tin whistle. We truly miss her. She recently became engaged and we are all so happy for her. So, we were lucky enough to have her back for a day, as she taught Mary Kate and Morgan a very challenging Irish dance routine from her Irish championship dancing days. She was very impressed with their abilities and said they were both naturals-destined for Riverdance. Later in the night, after dinner, students had drama and dance. In drama, students finished working on their plays that they will perform on Friday night. In dance, students learned the second part of the Eight Hand Reel. Then we had a half hour break before the long awaited talent show. Highlights of the talent show were Anica singing and playing guitar with Mariah dancing, Rachel singing, Petey playing the guitar, Morgan and Mary Kate Irish dancing, and a few special numbers by the beloved staff. Raquel said her favorite was the ILE Staff's skit-where Kevin was hilarious. Each drama group also prepared a short act for the talent show. When the talent show was finished, Angie sang everyone a lullaby and then everyone was ready to dance the night away at the disco. Bring on Call Me Maybe-shout out to you Scott McIver!
